Stomp your feet, clap your hands. Among more than 150 selections, Best of Flagstaff 2017 voters picked Pickin’ in the Pines as their favorite annual event or festival.

Going into its 13th year, Pickin’ celebrates the traditional and contemporary sounds of bluegrass and acoustic music in a festival environment that includes music workshops, dancing, jam sessions, a band contest, food, drink and much more. Each year more than a dozen performers and bands are chosen to play at the family-friendly fete.

Locals and out-of-town guests alike are drawn to the mid-September event under the cool pines of Fort Tuthill County Park. Many are ardent Pickin’ goers who reserve spots for camping during the three-day music extravaganza. Although the focus of the festival is bluegrass, the event hosts a cross section of music traditions that include folk, Celtic, gypsy jazz, progressive country, old-time and others.

Pickin’ in the Pines is an event of the Flagstaff Friends of Traditional Music, a nonprofit organization with a mission to share, preserve and promote American folk music, bluegrass and dance in Northern Arizona.

The 2018 Pickin’ in the Pines festival is slated for Sept. 14-16. Look for the lineup and ticket information in March.
