In Celebration of P. Edward Magnuson’s Life My father “Ed” was born on April 12, 1932 at Peck Memorial Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Dad was born to Swedish immigrants Ingrid and Pehr. Dad always said, his dad stuck him with his own name, “like the fruit, but not spelled the same”. Dad moved our family to Flagstaff in January 1971, and shortly thereafter he bought some property then known as Trail Riders Inn; on the corner of Route 66 and Woody Mountain Road. Dad always wanted to own his own business, and since he always loved to take us kids camping, he decided to start (what is still known as) Woody Mountain Campground. Dad put his heart and soul into the campground, and made many friends in the process. Dad sold the business in the early 1990’s. Dad was a member of the ‘infamous’ Brooklyn Club in New York. He was also a lifetime member of Kiwanis. Dad had twenty three years of perfect attendance in Kiwanis; but more importantly, he spent most of his life donating time, energy and commitment to helping under-privileged children. He spent many an hour selling Christmas trees, taking children out to buy presents and clothing, and doing anything that Kiwanis needed of him. Dad was notorious for always ‘stepping up to the plate’. Dad passed away on May 31, 2019. I always joke to others that I was my Father’s 30th birthday present, as I was born on Pop’s birthday, in the same hospital no less! I will miss celebrating our birthdays together. I am Dad’s daughter, and I am truly blessed that I had a father as wonderful as him. Thank you Pop, for all that you are. We love you, and we miss you. ‘Till we see each other again, Kristin and Dan
