Barbara Jean Hinckley Reed Barbara Jean Hinckley Reed passed away in her sleep, Sunday, March 2019, aged 87. She was born September 7, 1931 in Binghamton, New York. The daughter of Clara Leonard and Gordon Lee Hinckley. She married Donald Smith Reed on April 17, 1949 in Tempe, Arizona. They both worked as cowhands on horseback at a ranch in their early months together. They left that to become caretakers of the Astor’s Estate and grounds in Phoenix. They ultimately settled in Flagstaff where they raised their family. She was mother to 4 children: Susan Reed Johnson, Daniel Astor Reed (deceased), David Randall Reed, and Donna Rose Reed (deceased). They were of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her husband died in 1967. She worked for Flagstaff City Safety until her retirement. She was a qualified Ham Radio operator and served on with search & rescue as well as helping police and firefighters with their communication needs during forest fires and other emergencies. She was an avid outdoors woman, hiking, camping, hunting and guiding hunters all over Northern Arizona. She and her husband built the house in which they lived and where she passed away. She has 6 grandchildren: Aaron Johnson, Kelley Johnson, Rose Johnson, Barbara Johnson Lee and Dusty Rose Reed and Tyrel Reed. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, a daughter, father, mother, brother Lee Hinckley and sister June Hinckley. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Flagstaff’s Citizens Cemetery. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the LDS Chapel at 625 East Cherry Avenue. All are invited to the funeral services. No flowers please.
