Bernardino (Bernie) Nieto Bernardino (Bernie) Nieto Sr. passed away May 12, 2019 at home surrounded by his wife Marta and family. Bernie was born in Bernalillo, NM. In his youth, his parents Epimenio and Filomena Nieto moved from New Mexico to Bellemont, AZ where he attended Emerson Elementary School. When he was 19 he went into the U.S Army, serving from 1942-1946. He was a WWII Veteran and served in the Philippines in Guadalcanel. In the 1950’s he moved back to Flagstaff and worked in construction, meeting the love of his life Marta Contreras Nieto. Mr. Nieto was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ernesto Nieto and Epimenio Nieto Sr. who were also WWII Veterans. He is survived by his wife Marta and three children Ernestine (Chewy) Hernandez, Bernie Jr. (Dolores), Dorothy (James) Watson, five granddaughters, one grandson and eight great-grandchildren. His wife and family would like to thank Dr. Jelineck from the Veterans Hospital in Prescott, AZ for the care they gave him when hospitalized last July. Also, thanks go to Angela, Rachael, Dr. Allen Baehr from the Flagstaff VA Clinic for all the support and care given during Bernie’s illness. A very special thank you to Mayra Baldenegro for her love and care for Bernie. With heartfelt gratitude to all, and God Bless. Holy Rosary will be recited 9:30 Friday, May 17th, Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
