RECYCLE YOUR OWN FAT TO CREATE A BEAUTIFUL BACK-SIDE Dear Dr. Bass, How involved is it to “make a toosh?” I have been reading about having my own fat being used to fix my flat behind. I’m not looking for a “J-lo” look, but I do need some shape and contouring back there. What is involved and what is the recovery like? Karen V. Hello Karen, Buttock augmentation with fat grafting or aka: Brazilian butt lift, BBL is one of the most popular procedures in plastic surgery. Described in the plastic surgery medical journal as a “dual-benefit” body contouring procedure”, I harvest unwanted fat from one or more areas of your body and process that fat for transplantation to the buttocks. In many women liposuction is performed on the flank regions which also helps to bring in the waistline and improve the shape of the buttocks. Prior to surgery we discuss the shape you would like and map out the plan. After surgery for about four weeks you will wear a form fitted medical body garment that compress the liposuction area(s) with a contoured, lighter supportive panel for the gluteal area. After three weeks you may begin to resume normal activities and work out routines. Depending on the deficit it may require a repeat treatment. Please call Flagstaff Face & Body to schedule your consultation, 928-226-9355. Thanks Karen. Dr. Bass. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX FOR A SAGGING MALE FACE Dear Dr. Bass, I’ve had some significant weight loss and it really shows in my face. I look hollow and deflated. I don’t want to just do filler products, I want something more permanent. Also because of the weight loss I have extra saggy skin on my face/jawline/neck. Will just a facelift take care of all these concerns? Hey Jack, Besides the aging process, losing a large amount of weight will effect the face leaving behind a deflated appearance with excess skin. The goal with a male facelift is to make him look fresh, defined, and energetic. My male facelifts can be performed to restore the jawline and neck alone or as in your case, to restore mid face volume and the jawline/neck areas. When the face would benefit from more volume than your tissue will provide a permanent solution would be the use of facial implants; cheeks, chin, lateral jawline, combined with the check/neck lift procedure. The implants come in different shapes and sizes to enhance the structure of the face. Creating a balanced, uniform appearance is key. During your consultation we will discuss size and shape for whatever implant would benefit your facial structure. Fat transfer to the face does plump up areas but may require repeat sessions and may not be permanent. The surgery is performed at an outpatient surgery center with a one night overnight stay. In about two-three weeks you will be “show” ready. My patients say it was easier than they anticipated and say they didn’t expect to look so great! You ready Jack? Let’s do it!
