Northern Arizona announced Monday that this will be football head coach Jerome Souers' final season with the program.
In an early-evening press conference at the Walkup Skydome, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos said that Souers' 20th season with the Lumberjacks would be his last.
"Rather than wait until the end of the season, we want to celebrate Jerome's 20 years of service with NAU. We want our university, Flagstaff and Big Sky communities to have the opportunity to thank him, and wish him the best in the next chapter of his life. I want to thank Jerome for his service to NAU and the football program," Campos said.

4:30 p.m.: Two games into his 20th season with the Lumberjacks, Souers will reportedly not return to Northern Arizona in 2018, according to Brad Cesmat of Sports360AZ.com.
After signing a four-year extension in 2014, Souers’ contract is due to expire in January 2018. His tenure was tied for seventh among FCS coaches and included a Big Sky Conference-record 112 wins and overall record of 112-105. Northern Arizona last reached the FCS playoffs in 2013 and finished with a record of 9-3 that year.
