With area and district tournaments set to begin next week, the Flagstaff Girls Softball Little League will send four all-star teams to the tourneys.

Last summer, three of the league’s teams reached their respective state tournaments, with the juniors winning the state title and playing in the West region tournament against teams from across the western United States.

Included in this year’s junior roster will be: Nicole Almaraz, Maggie Aura, Izabella Baca, Morgan Derr, Jayden Dvorak, Andi Elliott, Marissa Foster, Cayelyn Gonzales, Natalie Hansen, Kaela Heart, Renee Josytewa, Payten Schmidt and Kristen Wendtland. The team will be coached by Glenn Hansen and is awaiting its fate as no other cities have entered the district tournament.

Scheduled for June 30, the district tournament could be skipped altogether and Flagstaff would petition to enter the state tournament on July 10 in Queen Creek.

One division lower, the 11- and 12-year-old team will begin play on June 26 at Continental Park, with Brett West serving as the skipper. The roster includes: Lianna Albert, Kristi-Ann Almendarez, Reannan Butler, Rylee Chiaverini, Katie Godfrey, Victoria Lessley, Maddy McDermed, Aleona Page, Marissa Rodriguez, Mia Villegas, Lauren West and Taylor West. Facing Holbrook and Winslow in the Area 1 tournament, Flagstaff will look to reach the district bracket by winning at least one game.

Set to be played in Blue Ridge immediately after the two area tournaments end, the winner of the district tournament will move on to state in Queen Creek on July 5.

Coached by Mark Wilson, the 10- and 11-year-olds will begin play in Winslow on July 5. With only Flagstaff and Winslow entered, the two cities will play a best-of-three series with the winner heading to the state tournament July 10 in Tucson. The team is made up of: Gianna Baca, Cali Brace, Reese Elliott, Bella Giurlanda, Christianna Janisse, Olivia Lanssens, Addie Peak, Izzy Pozar, Raea Sandner, Gracie Schmitz, Kody Watson and Danica Wilson.

The youngest all-star team, the 9- and 10-year-olds, will begin play June 28 in Holbrook with John Fockler leading the team. Playing on the team will be: Kianna Butler, Alyssa Fockler, Jadyn Josytewa, Koda Lakin, Abby McDermed, Mia Pozar, Sam Rodriguez, Abby Schmitz, Hannah Thornsley, Kaitlyn Tso, Destiny Villas, Audrie Wilson and Aubrie Winger. The state tournament is set for Litchfield Park on July 10.
