Coming away with another shutout victory, the No. 1 Northland Prep Spartans continued their perfect season with a 5-0 victory in the 2A Conference state semifinals Friday at Campo Verde High School in Gilbert.

The Spartans shut down the No. 4 Show Low Cougars for the third time this season, following a 3-0 victory at Show Low's invite in September and a 7-0 regular-season victory earlier this month. Northland Prep last allowed a goal on to Camp Verde on Oct. 12 and has outscored opponents 16-0 in the past three matches.

Freshmen Mia Blair, Kiarra Hovis and Ellie Karren continued their strong seasons with goals, while Rachel Ryan and Emma Blair added scores as well. Ryan and Karren also finished with two assists apiece. Holding the Cougars without a corner kick, the Spartans finished with four as they again dominated on the offensive end.

Northland Prep will face the the No. 3 Chino Valley Cougars Saturday at 3 p.m., again at Campo Verde for the state championship. The Spartans swept three meetings between tournament and regular-season play this year.

After a 2-1 win at Chino Valley on Sept. 12, Northland Prep followed up with a 6-1 victory four days later at the Show Low Invitational. Then, to wrap up the Central Region title a week and a half ago, Northland Prep beat Chino Valley 3-0.
