The Flagstaff Eagles, entering the night at No. 14 in the 4A Conference power rankings after a win over Coconino, edged the 24th-ranked Lee Williams Volunteers on Friday to complete another sweep of a Grand Canyon Region opponent.
Improving to 7-3 overall and 5-3 in region, the Eagles came away with the 45-41 road victory despite coming out of halftime flat against the Volunteers, who suffered their second straight loss. After the two teams played tight in the first half, with the Eagles taking the 21-20 advantage into the break, the Volunteers outscored Flagstaff 17-6 in the third quarter.
A trio of Eagles helped make sure to put the game away. Troy Yazzie recorded 12 points, and K.P. Kortsen and Ramsey Penza each added 11 for Flagstaff, which was playing its second game of a three-game road stretch.
Flagstaff, which also completed the sweep of Mohave earlier this season, will look to hit a three-game winning streak in the regular season for the first time when they take on Bradshaw Mountain in Prescott Valley on Tuesday.
