The Flagstaff Alpine Ski Team will be represented at this week’s U.S. Ski and Snowboard Rocky/Central U14 Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, as Cooper French competes in four different races.
French was one of 45 boys to qualify from the Rocky Mountain Region, thanks to beating roughly 125 other skiers at races held in Crested Butte, Colorado in late February. Set to run in the Super G, Giant Slalom, Slalom and Dual Slalom, French will run in a field of 100 boys born in 2004 or 2005 from the 18 states represented in the Rocky Mountain and Central regions.
A student at Sinagua Middle School, French earned a silver medal in the junior high state wrestling tournament and also plays football for the junior division Flagstaff Panthers.
French currently leads the points race for the Southern Series Championships in the under-14 boys division with the awards handed out on March 25th in New Mexico. As a whole, Team FAST also leads the points race and is in position to win the series’ championship for a third straight year.
