Stephanie Kim broke NAU's single-round record with a four-under par 68 on Monday. She's tied for the lead after two rounds at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic at Ocotillo Golf Course in Chandler.
"I was not expecting the school record," Kim said in a media release. "I tried to play the round one shot at a time and I felt ready for the round going into it."
Kim shot the 68 in the first round and a two-over-par 74 in the second round. She is tied with Montana's Lauren Howell at two-under-par 142 heading into the final round today.
The previous record of 69, which was held by four different golfers, was set by Lauren Gray in 2001 and was tied in 2008 by Sophia Choi. Last year, Bethany Leclair tied it and junior Alexa Kim recorded the score at the Grand Canyon Invitational in the fall.
NAU is in fourth place in the 23-team field and trails leader Texas El-Paso by nine strokes.
