There's one thing that already has NAU men's basketball coach Mike Adras excited about his team playing all of its games next season at the Rolle Activity Center.

"I can't wait for the NAU band to park right behind the other team's bench, just like we experience at Portland State and Montana," Adras said. "We'll let the band just blare their tunes into the huddle."

With both the men's and women's teams set to play their entire home schedule at Rolle next year, Adras is finding the positives. The teams will be forced to Rolle because of the Walkup Skydome renovations, which will begin in December.

As a result of the timing, instead of moving into the Dome in mid-December like normal, NAU will stay at the smaller venue.

The atmosphere at Rolle will resemble more of a college atmosphere rather than the low-key and often eerily quiet tones when the team plays at the huge Skydome.

"Certainly there's going to be much more noise in there," Adras said. "I am hopeful though they can get some new bleachers in there to accommodate a few more people to come to our games.

"There's also some logistical things to work on. People might have to park at the Skydome and shuttle over to Rolle because of the parking over there. So, we'll see."

As far as the capacity goes, NAU athletic director Jim Fallis is open to new ideas.

Fallis said the department has kicked around the idea of turning the court at Rolle longways, instead of the way it is now, housing three full-sized courts.

"There's some issues and we haven't even looked at the rules of where the scoreboards need to be located," Fallis said. "But, we are taking a look to see if there is some way we can increase the seating capacity at the Rolle Activity Center for that one year while we do this.

"The seating for volleyball is adequate. It seems adequate for pre-conference games but obviously not conference games. So, we'll take a look at if we can accommodate more people."

The biggest problem with moving to Rolle full-time next year may not even have anything to do with the games.

Without the Skydome available, the men's and women's team will have to share Rolle for practices instead of being able to go at the same time with one team at each venue.

"It's going to be very difficult for us," Adras said. "We're going to have to go either in the morning or late in the evening. It's not ideal for me. It will be more difficult on our student-athletes.

"At the same time, I'm all for helping out the university. It's a major thing that they're taking on and I'm 100 percent behind it."

Both teams could also have one more wrinkle to their schedules this year as well.

Fallis said he's hopeful both the men's and women's team will play one game at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley next year. Ideally, it would be a doubleheader with the men and women playing back-to-back. It's an idea that Adras is excited about.

"We have to do that," Adras said. "It exposes us to another area in northern Arizona and it makes sense for us to do the outreach to neighboring communities."

Fallis said that if the game at Tim's Toyota Center happens, it won't be part of the season ticket package for fans and instead, will be considered a neutral site game.
