The NAU football program received all kinds of good news on Monday, two days after its 40-12 win over Idaho State.

Early Monday, the Big Sky Conference announced Lumberjack sophomore place-kicker Matt Myers was the league's special teams player of the week for his performance against the Bengals.

A couple of hours later, the Jacks found out they moved up in both national polls this week.

NAU moved to up No. 21 in the Sports Network poll, one week after being ranked No. 24. The Jacks came in one spot behind Eastern Illinois and one spot ahead of Jacksonville State.

In the Football Championship Subdivision Coaches Poll, the Jacks came in at No. 22 after being slotted in at No. 25 last week. In the coaches poll, the Jacks are one spot behind fellow Big Sky member, Eastern Washington, and one spot ahead of Massachusetts.

The Jacks are now 5-2 on the season and 4-1 in Big Sky play and are riding a four-game winning streak.

During the four-game stretch, Myers, a transfer from Washington State, has played a big role.

In the win last weekend, Myers was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals and extra points. His long in the game was a 45-yarder and he also added kicks from 22, 24 and 26-yards out. He finished the game with 16 points, knocking in all eight kicks.

It's the first time Myers has been honored by the conference.

"I thought Matt kicked the ball very well and it was pleasant to see," NAU coach Jerome Souers said following Saturday's win. "We've been spoiled in the kicking game the last few years and Matt is picking up right where it left off."

Myers is 10 of 12 on field goals this year and has made his last seven attempts and has missed just one in the past four games.

Eastern Washington quarterback Matt Nichols was named the offensive player of the week. Nichols was 26-for-41 for 327 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Eagles' 34-24 home win over Montana State.

Weber State defensive back Thyrell Lewis was the defensive player of the week. Lewis, a senior, had five tackles, two pass breakups and a game-clinching interception in then No. 16 Weber State's 28-20 road win over Northern Colorado.

Jacks running back Alex Henderson was nominated for the offensive player of the week, while linebacker Stevon Thomas was nominated on defense.

OLE MISS TIME CHANGE

NAU will play the University of Mississippi on Nov. 7 at 5:30 p.m. Flagstaff time. The game was originally scheduled for noon, but was moved to accommodate television.

The game will be televised by Comcast Sports in the SEC region, but will also be available on ESPN Gameplan and ESPN360.com. It's one of eight NAU games televised this season.
