In light of today's terrible news from Charlottesville, Virginia, I offer the following comments.
I grew up and was educated in Flagstaff; my family immigrated to America from Germany, England and Bohemia. We were all immigrants, and we were not all pure white. Growing up here, my fellow playmates, students and friends were African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Mexicans, Apaches, Hopis and Navajos. It always seemed to me that all people were the same, both under God and under our Constitution. To say that the Caucasian race is superior is alien to me. To murder in the name of white superiority is immoral.
Now come the Neo-Nazis and white supremacists. Their hateful and disgusting anti-government ideas have now resulted in three deaths. As Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe said, these Neo-Nazis are losers; they need to crawl back to where they live...in their parents' basements. We do not want them in America. They have no place here.
President Trump has been unbelievably weak in denouncing the Nazis and white supremacists. His weak response to the Charlottesville tragedy, as well as his continuing employment of racist and Nazi-leaning people like Sebastian Gorka, Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon is an outrage to all American traditions.
I hope that all leaders of the Republican Party will condemn what happened today in Charlottesville, and will withdraw support from President Trump for his weak response and continuing support of of radical racists.
We need to return to a new American reality. Not one based on fake news, hyperbole, lies and exaggerations, but one based on George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and all of our country's founding father's, our country's REAL patriots.
