Racism: the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to others. This is one definition of racism. It is a testament to all people of color ("non- Eurocaucasian or Aryan") in the U.S. that we do not have an all-out race war in the United States right now, today. I believe the current administration would love to have any reason to disavow "others" in order to declare martial law.
In my opinion the white race dominates in terms of believing themselves "better than" others. I am white. My ancestors were immigrants. I continue to try to understand the festering, infected, malignant history of white supremacy in this country. I was honored to attend some black/white encounter groups in the 1970s. The tables were turned in a safe environment where meaningful dialogue was encouraged and teachable moments were fulfilled.
What I learned then is more important now than ever. If I am not anti-racist, I am racist. We must speak up and encourage understanding over hatred each and every day of our lives. The decision is ours.
