Honestly, I don’t know how to solve the Dreamer problem, but I do know one thing: either we live in a land of law or we don’t. Unfortunately, the Dreamers' parents brought them here illegally and therefore they are here illegally. Now, what do we do with them?
President Trump did the right thing by giving the problem to the Congress. The two Houses of Congress are the correct places to solve this problem. No president, Republican or Democrat, has the right to rule by executive order. Supposedly we are a republic (not a democracy). Thus Congress shall make the laws and the president shall enforce the laws. At least that is my simple understanding of the Constitution. We must not allow presidents to make, what appear to be, laws.
President Obama, by executive order, created the Dreamer problem. Congress, that do-nothing organization, failed to confront Obama and failed to begin to solve the immigration problem. Perhaps they have learned their lesson. But I doubt it since their main concern is to get re-elected. To do that, they, as the saying goes, kick the can down the road.
No nation can exist as a nation with open borders. If that ever happens, the United States of America will fail to exist. I pray we, the voters, never let that happen.
