With the rental crisis in Flagstaff only growing, we as a community need to say enough is enough. NAU should be forced to develop housing south of campus and students should have to live on campus for the first two years. The impact of the college on housing, traffic, and our downtown has been left unchecked too long. With students living on campus longer the housing economy would open up for families and local working class folks. More homes on the market for rent, not to mention the homes that wouldn't be bought by wealthy student's parents, would stabilize the cost of living here in Flagstaff. This could be implemented over the course of five years to allow the school to develop new housing away from downtown and market the new policy to incoming students of future classes.
