What qualifies as an appropriate resolution for our city council is not a new issue. In the 25 years I have lived here the Council has passed resolutions in opposition to transport of nuclear waste ( 1998 ), landmines (1999 ) the Patriot Act (2002 ) and now the border wall.

In all cases some argued that such matters are not Council business, It's curious that people who profess belief in one of our major religions seem to think that the admonition found in all of them to stand up for human rights, social justice and the brotherhood of all humans doesn't apply to city government.
