Harriet Young's cogent, carefully developed argument relating to the conflicts between the theoretical bases of capitalism and liberalism does not address the one most significant aspect related to both: There has never been any political system -- no government, no country, no society -- that has been able to consistently embrace and practice the economic system they claimed was the best for the people.

Theories have abounded, as her article makes clear; however, consistent application and practice have been very much lacking, as the people under both systems have experienced again and again.
