The pay for parking system in downtown Flagstaff is an excellent way to raise revenue for the city at little cost to its users. I find the kiosks easy to use even at night. It has always worked quickly. I have never had a problem with my credit card in one of the machines. This exact system is also used in Telluride, Colorado. To pay one dollar an hour is relatively inexpensive and it is a way to keep spots open for those actually shopping or eating downtown.
After reading Mr. Komassa’s letter today, I felt sorry for him. Having your car booted is not a pleasant experience. Having had my car towed once in New York City and paying a $150 fine, I understand the hardships of parking violations. However, I believe that his car was towed because he parked in the National Bank lot, which is a private property, not because he could not use the kiosk.
