A man was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of attempted homicide in Williams on Tuesday after firing his weapon at law enforcement.
Jowel Gutierrez, 35, of Williams, fired multiple rounds at Williams police officers after he barricaded himself inside an upstairs room on First Street, police said. Law enforcement was initially called to the scene because Gutierrez was making suicidal comments, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The fired rounds hit a patrol car and a nearby house but no officers or citizens were struck. Officers did not return fire. Residents were briefly evacuated from the area as the incident unfolded.
A Williams Police sergeant convinced Gutierrez to surrender, according to the Williams Police Department. He is currently being held at Coconino County Detention Facility.
DPS is conducting an investigation of the incident.
