To the editor:
I disagree with the Arizona lawmakers who continue to try and increase the ability of gun owners to bring their weapons into public buildings such as a library or city office. ( "Lawmakers target local gun curbs" Daily Sun 2/6/15) Aren't there more important items on the agenda like how to better educate our children? The last time I looked, we were ranked 47th in the country in the quality of our public education.
If the House Committee on Military Affairs and Public Safety wants to make their citizens feel safer they would not allow weapons of any kind into a public building. Yet that's exactly where we are headed with HB 2320 that would allow people with a concealed weapon to enter most public buildings with their gun. Yet I am sure those same lawmakers are going to still have a "No Guns Allowed" policy for their place of employment: the statehouse. Hypocrisy abounds.
Our lawmakers are still wasting our taxpayer money debating laws that make no sense and are only discussed to appease their financial donors: the NRA. Jan Brewer already vetoed similar measures in the last two years as she deemed them unnecessary and too costly.
To the Arizona House and Senate: Get back to your real job of balancing the budget, educating our children, creating sensible laws and protecting the public -- not endangering them.
