To the editor:

Want to attract new businesses and create jobs for Arizona? Offer quality education and spend to get it.

Presently, Arizona spends less than any state across the nation. It ranks last! That's right, 50 out of 50! Our tests scores are below the national levels for proficiency in reading and math. With our students competing with students across the nation for college entrance, let's give them a fighting chance.

Want to attract new business to Arizona? Show we value education and support the renewal of Proposition 204 this November. Why would anyone move here with school-age kids when there are 49 better choices.

The main problem is what give direction to the education estisblishment. How do we know that money is spent to improve education if we don't know improvement is?

The current legislature has not made education a pirority. Our Senator Tom Chabin gets it. His opponent Chester Crandell of Heber voted for those cuts to the classroom (I guess he figures the kids in his town can just transfer to one of the many private schools and charters located in Heber). I support Tom and I support 204.

The author asks- "Why would anyone move here with school-age kids when there are 49 better choices". Answer, because there is not correlation between per pupil funding and educational outcomes, and because Arizona is a leader in charter schools, has low taxes and other then Flagstaff has a generally lower cost of living.
