This week’s Hot Topics Café will tackle "Environmental Change and Emerging Pandemics."
The questions that will be discussed are: How do concerns about Ebola differ depending on the perspective from which it is viewed? How should we balance the concerns from different perspectives, especially in light of the ideals of a free, democratic society? Should we view pandemics as nature taking its course? Why or why not? And what do our answers to these questions say about our place in the environment?
The free café wlll be held Thursday, Feb. 26, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Museum of Northern Arizona. The café is presented by NAU’s Philosophy in the Public Interest program and moderated by Jeff Downard of the Department of Philosophy. For more information, call 523-8339.
As always, the café is not about winning a debate but learning more about different perspectives on key issues of public policy and values. The moderator will stress listening with care and speaking respectfully and thoughtfully, even while questioning assumptions and identifying logical fallacies.
