The retrial of accused NAU shooter Steven Jones has been delayed.

Coconino County Division 2 Superior Court Judge Dan Slayton has moved the date to March 27, stating that “a member of Mr. Jones defense team is currently unable to proceed to trial on the current date." The trial was scheduled to begin Tuesday.

Coconino County Deputy Attorney Ammon Barker objected to the trial delay, citing concern for the victims and their families.

Jones is accused of one count of first degree murder and six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, after killing Colin Brough with a handgun and injuring Nick Prato, Nick Piring and Kyle Zientek in 2015.

Jones claims he shot in self-defense.

Slayton declared a mistrial in May after a jury could not agree on a verdict for all counts.
