Refugio A. Montoya, 74, of Tucson, Arizona, was granted his angel wings on March 23, 2018. Refugio, known by his loved ones as “Kookie” was born June 8, 1943, in Flagstaff, Arizona, to Federico B and Rita Adame Montoya.
Refugio truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; playing his guitar, watching his favorite westerns and spending time with family and friends. Kookie loved laugh, tell funny stories and had a radiant smile and a child-like spirit that drew people to him, both young and old. Kookie loved the outdoors especially fishing with his family and friends.
Kookie is survived by his love and best friend, Richalean Wright; daughter, Belinda (Gilbert) Galindo; son, Danny Busch; brother Benny (Blanche) Montoya; sisters Eugenia Aragon and Margaret Peralta; five grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Federico B and Rita Adame Montoya; sisters Elvina Maestas, Martha Valencia, Isabel Alvarado, Eleanor Peralta, Maria Montoya and Alice Martinez; bothers Louis “Pete” Montoya, Chuck Montoya and Johnny Montoya.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Sunnyside Church of Flagstaff, 2300 N. West Street, Flagstaff, AZ at 5:30pm.
