Ray Alexander Waldrep

Ray Alexander Waldrep, 73, passed away on August 29, 2017 after a painful 16 month battle against lung cancer.   Funeral services will be Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85254. After the service, Ray will be entombed at Hansen Desert Hills Memorial Park in the Bell Tower Mausoleum. Ray was born in Atlanta, Georgia on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Little is known about his first eighteen months of life, but he was then adopted by Royce Aubrey and Ruby Waldrep, of Gainesville, Georgia.  He had no brothers or sisters, but enjoyed the company of many aunts, uncles, and cousins in this close-knit family. Ray attended Tennessee Military Institute, graduated in 1962 and immediately joined the US Air Force and served in the Security Police Division until 1966.   He saw service in both overseas and domestic locations.  He later attended Gainesville College and graduated in 1970. Ray married Kathleen “Kathy” Waldrep (nee Andersen) on July 11, 1964, and enjoyed a happy, loving marriage for 53 years until his passing. After the Air Force, Ray worked in the automotive business with his father, until Ray and Kathy relocated to Scottsdale, AZ in 1981. There he owned a successful property management/home repair business until he retired in 2006.  He enjoyed all sports but bowling and playing golf were his favorites, and he excelled at both.  Ray is survived by his wife and two daughters:  Tiffany Waldrep Turner, her husband Michael and her three sons, Dalton Dunn, Hayden Dunn and Mason Turner; and Alexandra Waldrep Acereto, her husband Tomas and her son, Tyler Edmonds; and the rest of his family and friends. Ray loved making people laugh, and for the last ten years of his life, his New Year’s Resolution each year was to make at least four people smile every day.   He succeeded.  Please visit www.hansenmortuary.com for online condolences.
