Nadine Louise Foerster

Nadine Louise Foerster passed away on May 28, 2017 in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 94.  Nadine was the second child of Clarence and Pearl Bechtel who lived in Boone, Iowa.  She graduated from Boone High School and decided to become a nurse.  She completed her nurses training at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa and then entered the Army as a Second Lieutenant.  Before Nadine was deployed, she met her future husband, Donald, at a U.S.O. dance.  Donald was in the Army training to become a medic.  Nadine and Donald were stationed in Germany and in 1945 they became engaged.  They were married at the American Cathedral in Paris, France in December 1945 and were discharged in early 1946 to start their lives first in Iowa and then in Arizona.  They had two daughters, Mary Jo (deceased) and Gayle.  Gayle is married to Kenneth Szot and has two daughters, Amanda and Erika.  Nadine practiced nursing for 40 years.  In 1975, Nadine became a Nurse Practitioner with an emphasis in Dermatology and worked at the Phoenix VA Hospital until her retirement in 1983.  Nadine and Donald moved to Flagstaff, Arizona in 1984 and lived there until their deaths.  Nadine loved to travel (especially with her granddaughters), reading, crafting, weaving and cooking.  She is survived by her daughter Gayle and son-in-law Kenneth (Phoenix AZ), granddaughters Amanda (Los Angeles, CA) and Erika (Los Gatos, CA).  She was preceded in death by her husband (Donald) and daughter (Mary Jo).  Intermit will be held on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Noon at the Flagstaff Citizen’s Cemetery, Veteran’s Section.  Memories and condolences can be shared online at
