Minnie Barnes born in 1931 in Winnebago, Illinois to Earl and Mildred Grover, passed away on January 29, 2018. She married the love of her life Carlin in 1951 and they moved to Arizona. Together they had five children and raised them around the State including Phoenix, Cottonwood, Winslow, Ajo, Williams, Kayenta, Tuba City and Window Rock. She moved to Flagstaff in 1980 after her husband passed away.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. During her life, she was, first and foremost, a homemaker and stay at home Mother. Prior to marriage she was a telephone operator. She had a small business selling fabric and notions on the Navajo Reservation. Later in life she got back into the workforce and worked at the Forest Service, was a waitress at Little America, a food sample server at Sam’s Club and most recently a Foster Grandparent at Kinsey School where she tutored first graders in math and reading. She loved to garden, watch birds and make crafts by hand. She also loved to spend time with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was never shy and always had a joke to tell anyone that would listen. She was full of them.
Her parents, brothers Earl, Ned, and Raymond, sister Helen, granddaughter Christina and her beloved husband Carlin precede her in death. She is survived by her children Mildred Gardom of Ladysmith Wisconsin, Angela Price, Terry Barnes, Toni Barnes all of Flagstaff and Ella Patton of Peoria Arizona. Her Sister Doris Collins (Dale) of Grand Rapids Michigan, Brothers Dale (Dorothy), Clyde Grover of Rockford, Illinois and Sister-in-Law Dorothy Ann Grover of Reedsburg, Wisconsin also survive Minnie. She has many son’s-in-laws, a daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she left behind as well.
Visitation will be Sunday February 4th, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Norvel Owens Mortuary. Funeral Service will be Monday February 5th at 10:00 AM at Norvel Owens Mortuary with interment to follow at Citizens Cemetery. Memories and condolences can be shared with family at www.norvelowensmortuary.com
