Dewey "Leon" Boyd, 89, died peacefully Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at his home in Flagstaff.
Born in Forestburg, Texas, he met and married his beloved wife Mary while living in Amarillo in 1940. They moved to Flagstaff in 1947. While in Flagstaff, they operated the Greyhound Bus Depot and later owned and operated Leon's Liquor and Sporting Goods. They retired in 1974, and lived in Meadview until Mrs. Boyd's death in 1997. Mr. Boyd then moved to Camp Verde where he lived for several years along with his daughter Beth and her husband Dave.
He became too ill to live there in February 2007, and he moved to Flagstaff to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Cal Magness, in the family home Mr. Boyd had built in 1950.
Mr. Boyd was a 58-year member of Flagstaff Masonic Lodge No. 7; a Past Patron of Grand Canyon Chapter No. 4, Order of Eastern Star; and was active with the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, serving as Rainbow Dad for many years. While in Flagstaff, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd were members of Flagstaff Federated Community Church. He was loved by all who knew him. His indomitable spirit touched everyone he met, and he will be greatly missed.
Mr. Boyd is survived by his three daughters and their families, Beth Toraason of Camp Verde, Patricia (Richard) Mahan of Phoenix, Kathy (Calvin) Magness of Flagstaff; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Private memorial services will be next week in Camp Verde. If desired, donations to Northland Hospice would be greatly valued (P.O. Box 997, Flagstaff AZ 86002-0997). Condolences may be sent to the family at www.lozanos flagstaffmortuary.com.
Arrangements are by Lozano's Flagstaff Mortuary.
