Charles Lamar Bryant

Charles Lamar Bryant, age 96, passed away on November 26, 2017 in his home in Flagstaff, Az. He is survived by 5 children, Beverley Lawrence (Cottonwood, Az), Barbara Latham (Flagstaff, Az), Arvel Bryant (Pinedale, Az), Curtis Bryant (Richmond, Mo) and James Bryant (Burkburnet, Tx); 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; his youngest brother Bill (Helen) Bryant (Pima, Az) and numerous nieces and nephews. Lamar was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Isabel Bryant, his wife of 66 years, Arvel Lee Melton Bryant, and his oldest Son Charles Lamar Bryant, Jr. (Chuck), and 6 siblings.

Lamar was born in Taylor, Az Feb. 6 1921, the 3rd child with 7 siblings. The family lived in Pinedale, Az on their parents homestead. He was a big strong youngster, and a good worker on the family’s behalf in their ranching and farming endeavors. He received his 8th grade education at the small Pinedale School, but left high school early to enter the workforce. He met his sweetheart, Arvel Lee Melton, a pretty Texas girl, in Clay springs, AZ. They fell in love and married in June 11, 1941, living for a time in Overgaard, AZ. Lamar was drafted into the service and served in the Navy until the war ended, a little under 2 years.

Lamar worked in the lumber industry, and moved his family to Happy Jack, Az, a small logging camp community. Lamar worked from 1937 to 1977 in that profession and became a very skilled log cutter. At the time of his passing at age 96, Lamar was still enjoying reading his western novels and history, doing Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles and of course all the sports on TV.

Lamar and Arvel Lee were very proud of their family and always did their best to provide for them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, a truly good man.

He will be laid to rest with graveside services on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 1:00PM in the Veterans section of Citizens cemetery in Flagstaff, Az.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to Hospice Compassus, 1000 N Humphreys, Ste. 220, Flagstaff, Az 86001.
