The city of Flagstaff has confirmed that Maverik has not applied for a beer and wine license for its Butler Avenue store.

Aaron Simpson, a Maverik spokesperson, said the company decided against filing an application for a license for the store after receiving results from an online poll of the neighborhood.

The company polled residents after getting some questions from customers about why that particular store did not sell beer and wine. Simpson said the store got a nearly equal number of residents from the community taking the survey strongly for and strongly against selling beer and wine at the store. Flagstaff Unified School District's strong disapproval of the idea also factored into the decision, he said.

He said the company did reach out to both schools in the neighborhood and the city about the possibility of a permit before sending out the poll.
