I am astounded and saddened at our country's paltry response to the dire problems faced by our fellow citizens in the hurricane-devastated commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
How is is that we can airlift and air-drop thousands of tons of supplies to German citizens in the Berlin airlift, and to our military in Vietnam, Kuwait and Iraq -- many thousands of miles away -- with ease, and yet we cannot get help to our fellow citizens so close to our shores.
Is this because most of us don't really believe that Puerto Rico is part of the United States?
Our country - and the Trump administration and the Pentagon - need to get in gear and provide massive help to our compatriots in Puerto Rico. Let's forget about ridiculous tweets about the N.F.L., and get on with helping out fellow citizens in such critical need. We need to marshall all of ours resources to provide food, water, medicine and other forms of aid to rescue our neighbors.
