A Flagstaff resident is recovering from surgery after being shot Sunday at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas, the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Tawny Wamack, 21, a waitress at Denny’s Restaurant on South Milton Road, is currently recovering in Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas after being hit in the back by a bullet, according to her co-workers.

The bullet reportedly went through her back and exited her chest, injuring her hand in the process. The injuries required reconstructive surgery, according to her co-workers.

Denny’s Unit Manager Irwin Wyant said the restaurant is working on a fundraiser for Wamack.

“She is fantastic and the last person you would think this would happen to,” Wyant said. “She is always smiling and one of our best servers.”
