The fourth annual Flagstaff Performance Arts and Film Festival will take place today and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Organized by Jayne Lee and Gina Darlington, the event will include two evenings of work featuring six local dance companies and three guest artists in performance at the Clifford E. White Theater on NAU campus.

The six local companies include Human Nature Dance Theatre, Canyon Movement Company, Velocity Dance Company, Encore Dance Company, and Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy. The guest artists include Tango Maestro Pedro Arandia (Argentina), the Carpet Bag Brigade (San Francisco) and Desert Dance Theater (Phoenix).

As part of the festival, Canyon Movement Company will be celebrating its 20th anniversary. CMC dancers will present repertory from 1993 to 2013 in this evening of dance. Former dancers Kristen Widmer McBride, Sarah Roberts Cooke and Lindy Tannenbaum will be returning to perform in the festival as well as local dancer Gina Shorten who is now dancing with the Carpet Bag Brigade.

There will also be dance films by local film maker Amanda Kapp shown in the lobby before the show and during the intermission.

Admission to the performances is by donation at the door.

This year's event will also include two workshops. An Introduction to Argentine Tango Workshop with internationally renowned Tango artist Pedro Arandia will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Human Nature Dance Studio. A Disney audition workshop by former CMC dancer Sarah Roberts Cooke will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Canyon Dance Academy.

Comedy show to benefit local school

New York City-based comedian and co-host of MTV's late night show Nikki & Sara Live will be joined by fellow comedian Scott Moran for an "Evening of Comedy" at the Green Room Saturday, May 4 to benefit Haven Montessori.

This marks the third year that Schaefer and Moran have brought their comedic talents to Flagstaff, but the first since Schaefer landed her MTV show. The evening promises to bring side-splitting humor, all for a good cause.

"I have family in Flagstaff, and Haven Montessori is near and dear to their heart, so it is an honor to come back again and support their school," Schaefer said.

The "Evening of Comedy" will take place from 5 to 8 p.m., and all proceeds from ticket sales and raffle prizes will benefit Haven Montessori. The show will be for those 21 and older. Pre-purchase tickets are available for $20 at http://flagstaff greenroom.com/ or in person at the Green Room or Haven Montessori. Tickets will also be sold for $25 at the door.

Schaefer is a critically acclaimed stand up comedian, writer and producer based in New York City. She is the co-host of MTV's late night show Nikki & Sara Live airing Tuesdays at 11 p.m. She won two Emmy awards for her work as the head blogger for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, was one of Comedy Central's Comics to Watch in 2010 and has written for BestWeek Ever.tv and Who Wants to Be A Millionaire. Moran is a stand-up comedian and film maker currently working out of New York City.
