A Coconino County Sheriff's Office deputy has been cited after he hit a pedestrian in Page late last month.

According to officials, a 61-year-old woman was walking across Lake Powell Boulevard in the crosswalk on Feb. 26 when the deputy hit her in his patrol car. According to Page Police Department reports, the officer was waiting at a red light to turn left onto South Navajo Road at about noon. When the light turned green, the deputy began driving and struck the woman. She was not significantly hurt, but was transported by medical personnel and treated for her injuries.

The deputy was cited for failure to exercise due care. Sheriff's office officials say that a decision on any potential disciplinary action is still pending.

"It just shows that they're subject to the same laws as anyone else is," said Coconino County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Gerry Blair.
