A 31-year-old Phoenix man was arrested after he punched and strangled his ex-girlfriend Wednesday because he was upset that she talked to other men.
According to a police report, the two were in town for a work party and decided to go downtown drinking afterward. When the pair returned to the residence where they were staying, the man "freaked out" and punched her twice in the stomach. He then strangled her with his hands.
The man demanded that they return to Phoenix immediately and told her to get into her car, which he was driving. Instead, she yelled for help and he drove off.
The man was arrested by the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office on Interstate 17 Wednesday and transferred back to the Flagstaff Police Department.
Brandon Alder West was booked into the county jail on charges of aggravated assault - domestic violence impede breathing, assault, disorderly conduct and auto theft.
