A 61-year-old Flagstaff man was arrested for recklessly exposing himself in public Monday after he urinated near a playground at Bushmaster Park and at least one family saw his genitalia.
According to a police report, a city employee was working in the park when he saw the man urinating in the picnic area close to the playground. The employee called police and spoke with a woman who was playing with her children at the park. The woman said she and her child saw the man's genitals. She vowed to never return to the park and left before police arrived.
An officer found the man intoxicated and passed out nearby, a police report stated. The man admitted to the officer that he had urinated in view of the playground, even though a bathroom was open nearby. The officer arrested the man for misdemeanor reckless exposure -- a sex offense -- as well as urinating in public.
The officer wrote in a police report that he could have charged the suspect with a more severe offense because there were a large number of children under the age of 15 at the park. But the city employee was the only witness he could find who was willing to be listed as a victim in the incident.
A home was burglarized in the Ponderosa Trails neighborhood near the airport on Saturday.
A police report stated that a 46-inch black television and a large cowskin rug were taken. The thieves appeared to avoid many valuables in the home. They searched through gun safes, cabinets and other areas, in what police suspected was a search for cash or some other specific items. The homeowners live in California and the home is being watched by their daughter, who stops in regularly to take care of the home.
