A 56-year-old man was found dead behind the Rodeway Inn on East Butler Avenue at about 9 a.m.

According to information from the Flagstaff Police Department, an official cause of death has not yet been determined, but officials said they suspect exposure to extreme cold and alcohol may have played a role.

The man's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Police discovered no signs of trauma and said the man was fully clothed. A number of empty alcohol bottles were found in the area, as well as a bottle of liquor in the man's backpack.

Officials said a hotel patron was walking his dog behind the hotel this morning when he found the man on the ground unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the National Weather Service Bellemont Station, the overnight low at the Flagstaff airport was 15 degrees.
