The Coconino County Sheriff's Office has launched an intensive search for a 27-year-old Minnesota man whose car was found at the Oak Creek Overlook on Monday.
Search and Rescue vehicles could be seen at the vista and an Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter was circling the canyon Wednesday, looking for any signs of the missing man.
Search and Rescue crews rappelled down the overlook cliffs, but nothing was found.
Officials said that ground crews will continue their search today.
Shaun Rentz was supposed to meet his friends in Minnesota on Saturday evening, but never showed up, officials say. He also never showed up to move in with friends on Monday morning.
That's when family members contacted the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office in Minnesota to report him missing. Authorities said his cell phone appears to have been shut off.
Rentz was last seen at about 6 p.m. Saturday.
He reportedly has an uncle in Cottonwood, but has not made contact with him. He's not thought to have visited Cottonwood since he was a kid.
Forest Service personnel left a note about overnight stays on the man's 2004 Silver Audi four-door sedan Monday when they noticed his car parked at the overlook. They became concerned when the car was still there the next day.
The scenic overlook is now the focal point of the Sheriff's office search.
Rentz is described as a white male with brown hair and blue eyes, about 6 feet, 4 inches tall and weighing around 215 pounds.
CCSO officials are asking anyone with information about Rentz's location or the circumstances of his disappearance to call 774-4523 or toll free at (800) 338-7888 or Flagstaff/Coconino Silent Witness at 774-6111.
