The Arizona Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration will begin bridge deck replacement and repair work on the four Interstate 40 bridges over Interstate 17 and Beulah Boulevard in the upcoming weeks.
ADOT spokesman Ryan Harding said preliminary construction work has already begun, and drivers will begin to see impacts along Beulah Boulevard in March, with more impacts scheduled to begin in April.
The approximately $10 million project will include replacing three bridge decks and approach slabs and increasing the bridge cross slopes, and retrofitting one bridge deck with an overlay.
Construction will take place seven days a week and includes both day and night work. Overnight, one-direction closures of Beulah will be required, as well as rolling night closures of I-17 and ramp closures during interchange work.
The I-17 northbound ramp to the I-40 westbound ramp will be closed from mid-April through December, and the southbound I-17 ramp to the eastbound I-40 ramp will be closed in June, ADOT officials said.
The project is scheduled to be completed in late 2018.
