Flagstaff can expect moderate to heavy snow to start falling between 10 p.m. and midnight, with 4 to 7 inches on the ground by Saturday afternoon.
Wind gusts this afternoon topped 50 mph in several northern Arizona locations, according to the National Weather Service in Bellemont.
Higher snowfall totals of up to a foot are forecast for Happy Jack/Blue Ridge and north of the Grand Canyon.
Snowfall amounts at 11,000 feet on the San Francisco Peaks will top 2 feet, with wind chills as low as 26 degrees below zero Saturday amid wind gusts as high as 34 mph.
Intermittent snow showers will continue through Sunday and into Monday as another cold storm system moves into the region. Several more inches of snow are possible, according to the Weather Service, although forecast models are still uncertain.
Skies will clear Tuesday, with slowly moderating temperature through the rest of the week.
