The Northern Arizona DX Association, a group of amateur (Ham) radio operators, recently elected its 2013 officers. Pictured, from left, are Paul Gagnon, secretary, Bob Wertz, president, Jack Lunsford, vice president and Dave Brown, treasurer. The club participates in Radiosport contests and specializes in long distance radio contacts (known as DX). Members try to contact as many countries as possible from their Flagstaff-area amateur radio stations. Some members have contacted in excess of 330 of the 340 active countries in the world.

The club started the annual "Route 66 on the Air" special event, where they set up amateur radio stations all along Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica, Calif., and other Hams, from all parts of the world, try to contact each of the participating stations. Last year, according to a press release, the 13th consecutive year of the event prompted more than 35,000 amateur radio contacts from all parts of the world.

Although the club is not an amateur radio entry-level club, visitors are welcome to the monthly meeting, held at McCoy Motors on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Visitors are also welcome at a breakfast roundtable meeting on the first Saturday of each month, at the Village Inn restaurant.
